This has been a challenging year for placing individuals in jobs. We have some very motivated people waiting for that special match. We know how the poor economy is affecting the US, especially in California. This is making getting jobs most challenging of times. The good news is we are developing some new programs in Supported Employment Program to help us diversify and build skills while we wait for the economy to right itself.
Community Opportunities will offer clients (in groups of three), along with a Community Job Vocational Coach, to spend three days per week in the community getting an up-close view of different types of jobs our community has to offer. They will spend the first month visiting all kinds of businesses, meeting all kinds of employees and checking out job descriptions. Transportation, for the most part, will be to learn and practice on public transportation.
After 30 days, each person will guide the designing of their personal goal plan. From there, the plan will determine which job categories they wish to learn more about. Based on that information, they will even get to try similar job duties at our designated non-profit partners.
This program's goal is to assist clients navigate the investigation of their vocational future while actually being in the community. The ultimate goal is to become job ready and be referred to SEP for Job Placement services. We are in the process of creating our first group.
